Boone, N.C. — Coastal Carolina put together one of its most complete offensive performances of the season, taking down Appalachian State 45–37 on Saturday night in Boone. Behind the dual-threat play of quarterback S. Collier, the Chanticleers held off a late Mountaineer rally to secure a key conference win. Collier led the charge with 118 passing yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 74 yards and two more scores on 17 carries. His ability to extend plays and finish drives proved to be the difference for Coastal, which totaled 410 yards of offense and converted 6 of 10 third-down chances. Appalachian State moved the ball effectively as well, matching Coastal with 410 total yards, but penalties and missed opportunities slowed the Mountaineers’ momentum. Quarterback J. Kohl threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns, connecting often with D. Dozier, who finished with 70 receiving yards. The first half was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading touchdowns and big plays. Coastal Carolina pulled ahead in the third quarter thanks to Collier’s legs and a 37-yard touchdown strike to J. Tucker. App State fought back in the fourth behind Kohl’s passing attack but couldn’t close the gap. Defensively, S. Goram-Welch recorded a sack for Coastal, while D. Hasz added one for App State. Both teams forced a turnover, but the Chanticleers’ composure down the stretch sealed the win.
