Manning Throws 3 TDs as No. 20 Texas Holds Off No. 9 Vanderbilt 34-31 AUSTIN, Texas — Texas quarterback Arch Manning bounced back from a concussion to deliver a stellar performance, throwing for 328 yards and three touchdowns to help the No. 20 Longhorns edge No. 9 Vanderbilt 34-31 on Saturday. Manning opened the game with a 75-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo, setting the tone for Texas. The Longhorns appeared in control, leading 34-10 in the fourth quarter, before Vanderbilt mounted a furious comeback. Quarterback Diego Pavia scored on a run, threw a 67-yard touchdown to Eli Stowers, and later connected with Richie Hoskins for a TD with just 33 seconds remaining. Vanderbilt’s final attempt to recover an onside kick failed when the ball bounced off multiple players and went out of bounds. “Almost a playoff-level game in November,” said Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. “It’s a great win… You have to play a full 60 minutes in this conference.” Manning had missed part of last week’s game against Mississippi State due to a concussion but was cleared to start against the Commodores after completing the team’s injury protocol.

No. 22 Texas Comes Back to Beat Mississippi State 45-38 in Overtime STARKVILLE, Miss. — The No. 22 Texas Longhorns overcame a late deficit and an injury to quarterback Arch Manning, rallying to defeat the Mississippi State Bulldogs 45-38 in overtime on Saturday. Matthew Caldwell threw the game-winning touchdown to Emmett Mosley after Manning left the game with an apparent injury. Texas trailed 31-14 after three quarters but pulled within reach thanks to a 79-yard punt return by Ryan Niblett with 1:47 remaining in regulation. Even after falling behind 38-21 with 12:29 left—highlighted by Davon Booth’s 62-yard touchdown catch and run—the Longhorns kept fighting. Manning connected with Mosley on a 21-yard touchdown with 9:34 left, followed by Mason Shipley’s 26-yard field goal to make it 38-31 and force overtime. “Once a year you get a culture win, and this was ours,” said Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. “I don’t know if I’ve ever been more proud of a group of guys. Our toughness had to be at its peak for this program.” Manning finished 29 of 46 for 346 yards, throwing three touchdowns and one interception, and also added a rushing touchdown before exiting in overtime.

Texas Longhorns Escape with Narrow Win at Kentucky After a big win last week, the Texas Longhorns faced a different kind of challenge on the road against the Kentucky Wildcats. Coming off a high-profile matchup, the Longhorns struggled to find their rhythm, managing a 16-13 victory in a game that fell short of expectations. While Texas came away with the win Saturday night, the offense looked sluggish at times, and the game proved far closer than many anticipated.

Texas drops season opener to No. 6 Duke at Dick Vitale Invitational CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Duke opened its season with a 75-60 victory over Texas on Tuesday night, overcoming a slow start behind a breakout performance from freshman Cameron Boozer and a strong showing by sophomore guard Isaiah Evans. Evans led all scorers with 23 points, including four three-pointers, while Boozer posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Duke center Patrick Ngongba added 10 points as the Blue Devils’ defense clamped down in the second half, holding the Longhorns to just 32% shooting and forcing 16 turnovers. For Texas, Dailyn Swain finished with 16 points, and newcomers Jordan Pope and Matas Vokietaitis each chipped in 15 in head coach Sean Miller’s debut with the program. The opening half was a grind for Boozer, who went 0-for-7 from the field before halftime as Duke trailed 33-32 at the break. But the freshman flipped the script after intermission, attacking the rim and hitting 9 of 12 free throws while contributing on both ends with three steals, two assists, and a block. Duke struggled early, missing nine of its first ten shots and falling behind 7-3 before Evans caught fire from beyond the arc to spark a 23-10 run. Texas briefly regained control late in the half, but the Blue Devils’ balance and defensive intensity carried them through the final 20 minutes.

The Longhorns kept their foot on the gas after the break, with Pope’s jumper making it 50-30 less than a minute in. Lafayette briefly cut the deficit to 16, but Texas responded with a string of baskets from Wilcher and Vokietaitis to stretch the advantage past 30.
