NEW ORLEANS — Mississippi showed it can thrive without Lane Kiffin, thanks to clutch performances from Trinidad Chambliss. Chambliss threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns, while Lucas Carneiro’s 47-yard field goal with just six seconds remaining sealed a 39-34 win over third-ranked Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, a College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup.

AUSTIN, Texas — Ole Miss women’s basketball came up just short on Sunday, dropping a 67–64 decision to second-ranked Texas inside the Moody Center. The Rebels (14-3, 1-1 SEC) made things tense late after erasing most of a sizable deficit. Trailing by as many as 19 points and down 15 entering the fourth quarter, Ole Miss surged back to pull within three before time ran out. Texas (17-0, 2-0 SEC) steadied itself in the closing moments to remain unbeaten. Cotie McMahon sparked the late rally with a dominant final period, scoring 12 of her 19 points in the fourth quarter while also contributing four rebounds and four assists. Her performance nearly pushed the Rebels all the way back into the game. McMahon’s scoring consistency continues to stand out, as she has reached double figures in all 17 games this season. That streak matches the mark set by Nikki Byrd to open the 2011–12 campaign and puts McMahon within reach of Ole Miss history, with Bianca Thomas’ 19-game run from the 2009–10 season next on the list.
