ECU VS UNC

The first half in Chapel Hill went as expected with the Heels coming into this game a
25.5-point favorite. ECU attempted to set the tone early, winning the tip-oJ and pulling
ahead 2-0 early, a lead that lasted 20 second and was never seen again. That is not to say
that the Tar Heels came out and lit the world on fire, shooting an abysmal 59% from the
field and only 67% from the charity strike. Despite the 49-26 score at the half, the Pirates were holding up pretty good in the categories that aren’t on the scoreboard considering the talent diJerential between these two teams. But only making 1-9 from three-point range and a 28% FG percentage, makes it hard to keep the score close.

The second half brought more of the same between these two unevenly matched
teams as the Heels continued to pull away in this one. One bright spot for the Pirates was
Giovanni Emejuru, with a career high rebounds in a game of 13 and two points shy of tying
his career high points total as a Pirate of 23.
Poor shooting from the Pirates and turnovers forced by the Heels defined this
matchup as the final score from Chapel Hill; The Tar Heels 99, East Carolina 51.
The Pirates look to start conference play next week as they take on Tulane at home
at noon 12/31 airing on ESPNU. As for the Heels, they too start conference play next week as they host Florida State at 7 pm 12/30 airing on ESPN2.
